Drunk driving

As anyone who knows me know I have some issues with alcohol.  Not me myself drinking, I drink socially only really a few times a year.  It isn't allowed in our house.  We don't drink around our kids...EVER.  But one of my biggest "issues" surrounding alcohol is drunk driving.  Can someone explain this to me?  What goes through someone's mind that makes them think they are ok to drive?  I've been drunk but never once have I thought you know what who gives a fuck I'm going to drive anyways.  I've been REALLY drunk and yet still somehow have enough common sense to know not to drive.  Why is it that other people don't seem to have that?

I'm so tired of hearing stories of drunk drivers killing people in accidents...I just don't get it.

This past weekend I had an "incident" and I won't say who it was though of course if they read this they will know but it's nothing negative about the person involved.  But again, I just don't understand.  How do you get to that point where you make it ok in your head?  Sure some people might be thinking "oh it would never happen to me" or " what difference does it make to everyone?  It's my life"  No I'm sorry it is not just your life.  And even if it was, you are putting yourself in danger, your kids father/mother, your parents' child, you siblings' sibling.  What in the hell are you thinking?   Grow up!!!  (not directed at that person but in general people who do it)

Who gave you the right to drink and then drive on the streets I drive my kids on?  Who gave you the right to put their lives in danger?  In one second you could change someone's life forever, change your own life, don't be so damn stupid.

And remember people "friends don't let friends drive drunk" lol

Really think before you do something so stupid.  Even a few drinks is too many to be driving after.

Menu of the week

I'm really excited about my menu for this week.  Along with my plans to keep up better with the cleaning and make myself a schedule so it's easier I have also been trying to cook more.  I cook quite a bit and I like to think pretty healthy but I've been trying to get the boys away from processed snacks and making them myself.  They also eat a lot of cereal and I'd like to cook more for breakfast and do more than sandwiches for lunch.  Sooooo I've been making menus for us lately and it helps a ton with grocery shopping and just takes the stress out of figuring out what is for dinner each night.  I don't pick a night/day for everything because I may not feel like it that night but here is my menu...most of it is new stuff we've never tried so I'll be back with reviews of the new stuff, hopefully it's all great!

Breakfast
Blueberry cream cheese french toast (it's more like a bread pudding type of thing)
Blueberry muffins
Egg in a hole
Baked maple bananas

Lunch
Tex Mex rice cakes
Apple and Raisin tuna salad in pitas
chicken, cheese and beans quesadillas
chicken meatballs

Snacks
granola balls ( a big time favorite with the boys)
yogurt parfaits with maple/cinnamon apples
Banana bread
Banana bites
Peanut butter oatmeal cookies

Dinners
Chicken enchiladas with spanish rice
Brown sugar meatloaf with mashed potatoes and candied carrots
Chicken cordon bleu with rebaked potates and veggies
Sour cream pork chops with rice and veggies
Slow cooker chicken and dumplings
Slow cooker cheesy garlic chicken with rice and veggies
Salsa chicken and rice

We eat a lot of chicken, huh?

Tonight I prepped what I could which was the blueberry cream cheese french toasts for the boys for the next 2 days, granola balls, brown rice for rice cakes and the apple mixture for the yogurt parfaits.  I really hope the boys like it all, they aren't picky so we should be good, but I hope we have some new favorites!  I'm about to go make Landon's lunch, sending yogurt parfait with it so hopefully he likes it!!  Then just have to wait for the brown rice to finish and I can go to bed.  Tomorrow starts my new cleaning schedule, homeschooling schedule/lessons and all the new yummy food!

New way of doing things

Alright I'm going to change things.  I'm going to start doing better cleaning and cook more often....really I mean it this time.  Yeah, so what I've posted a blog like this at least 2 times before, but I mean it this time....don't go back and read those cause I probably said that last time too....hush.  This time I REALLY mean it.

Do you know what I hate doing the most???  Cleaning the bathrooms.  I hate hate hate to do it.  That might be because I have 3 little boys that apparently only know how to aim at the toilet seat, wall or floor...inside the bowl??  No way!  Where is the fun in that??  I mean I keep them decently clean but don't fully clean it as often as I should.  Well guess what?  Today I scrubbed both bathrooms top to bottom and plan to do it every Friday...go me!  Gonna even add it to the calendar to remind me, now let's see how long I do it haha.  BTW my big corner tub is not easy to clean.  I was hanging over the side, feet straight out trying to reach the other side.  But hey it's clean!

I really need to figure out a better cleaning schedule, for instance the bathrooms every Friday.  I need to plan things for the other days too.  Things like the kitchen and laundry and basic pick up have to be done daily.  Let's see....

Monday- Ceramic Tile
Tues- Vacuum
Wed- Boys rooms
Thurs Vacuum
Friday- Bathrooms

Thankfully Mark deals with his media room so I don't have to dust in there or anything, he keeps it clean all the time.

Now for cooking, I already cook dinner most nights but I really want to start cooking breakfast rather than giving cereal/toast/bagels.  I figure atleast I can do it 3-4 days a week.  And figure out more variety for their lunches. The past few weeks Landon has only been taking dishes to lunch so we've been doing tons of fresh fruit and he is stuck on cream cheese and strawberry jam sandwiches, he doesn't want anything else.  But I want to start sending him real meal stuff, like leftover pasta and that type of thing.  I've been collecting some new recipes so hopefully next week will be better all around, cleaner house, better food.

Next week I'm also starting a more structured homeschool with Casen and Hayden.  For the past few months we really haven't done much, between the move and needing to order new books I had really been slacking.  But I finally got my own copy of Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons, so we are restarting that, I could probably start where we left off but I want to refresh with him so we started yesterday and did Lesson 2 today.  I also have some math, writing, art, geography and science lessons planned to start next week.  I planned some stuff for Hayden too...art, identifying letters and numbers and counting.  Once we get all the letters down we will begin sounds and hopefully soon after his 3rd bday start the same book I'm using with Casen for reading.  I'm really excited about it.  I'm going to order some posters to put on the wall and set up a school space for them, just need to decide where, I could do the dining room and just take down the posters when we have guests.... not sure yet.  I also need to print some more worksheets and we'll be ready to start next week!!!  Going to make a trip to the library tomorrow as well, the boys will get their library cards for Waxahachie, they are excited.

I'm really hoping we can get a 2nd car soon so I can start taking Casen and Hayden to the story time they do up there and they have some activities especially for each of their ages as well.  Plus it will make baseball so much easier, right now Mark is having to leave work early to take them almost every day.  Thankfully Brandon is understanding about it all.  Speaking of baseball Landon won his game last night 11-4!!!  Both teams are still undefeated.  Casen has practice tonight and they both have games again tomorrow as long as they don't get rained out.

Birthday party = Fail.

Well it is finally over, thankfully.  After tons of changes and planning it's done for a year.  Too bad it sucked.  Ok maybe not completely the kids did have fun and I guess that's what really matters.

First, we woke up and it was raining so we had to cancel the surprise bounce house.  Luckily we hadn't told the boys about it so they weren't disappointed.  But since we had planned that we figured the kids would be too busy playing in that to want to play games or anything....so we didn't plan any, which left us with nothing to do the morning of the party.  So having nothing else planned just put me in a really bad mood, I was really disappointed to have to cancel that.

My mom then called for directions, she hasn't been out to our new house yet, she was bringing the cake.  When I talked to her it sounded like maybe she had been drinking, which we don't allow around the kids.  She said no.  I told her I had already had a really crappy morning and had tons left to do to get ready for the party and I didn't want to deal with that so she should just tell me then if she had so I could figure out another cake.  She swore she hadn't.  I gave her directions and she kept calling lost, our house is very easy to get to, I gave very clear directions, so did Dessa and so did Mark....yet they got lost like 3x.  The more I talked to her the more drunk she sounded.  I was dreading her getting there.  By then everyone else was here.  She finally made it, stumbling drunk...her boyfriend driving.  They brought the cake in which was $40 and crappy.  I hated it.  It was just a sheet cake with some color sprayed on it and batman and spiderman figures stuck on it..hardly decorated, not worth near $40.  Everyone knew my mom was drunk, it was so obvious.  She even went up to Casen's coach's son and kissed him on the head and said she had missed him....thinking it was Landon!!!!!  So I pulled her boyfriend aside and told him she needed to leave.  He told her and she stuck around still.  They went out to smoke and I sent Dessa out after them and after a yelling match she finally left.  I haven't talked to her since and really not sure I will.  I'm so tired of dealing with this, I thought after my dad she would have smartened up but obviously not, it's gotten worse with her.  I just can't take much more of this.  I'm tempted to just send her a check for the cake and stop answering her calls for awhile.....I don't know.

After she left the party got better but I was still in a bad mood from it all.  We did cake....which as I write this I realize I totally forgot ice cream.   Oh well!  Then we did presents, the boys got some great stuff.  Landon got water skis, a pitching machine, some lego guy that he loves, and some hot wheels monster trucks!  Casen got a baseball tee, camping kit with tent sleeping bag and chair, iron man and an iron man floor puzzle which he is thrilled about..the kid loves puzzles!  Then they got this box of spongebob games to share and a 3 lane slip and slide.  They can't wait to get to use that.  Thanks to everyone that did show up!!!!

Which was another "bad" thing.  Only one kid from Casen's baseball, none from Landon's and one kid from Landon's class showed up.  Then our family and friends.  Atleast the boys didn't notice but I invited the entire class, both baseball teams.  Teach me to do it on a Sunday again.  Landon was so worn out and made him feel bad this morning he couldn't go to school.  He's a bit sick now but not bad, he could have gone to school if he wasn't so tired.

Hayden also got a gift from Heather yesterday.  Some spill proof bubbles, he hasn't barely put them down since, he LOVES them!!!!  Thanks so much Heather!

I'm glad the ones that came were the ones to show up, loved everyone that was there and thanks so much for coming.  Hopefully next year will be more of a success!

Landon is 7

How crazy is that?!?!  SEVEN years old!  My 1st baby is 7!  I just can't believe it.  It sounds like a much bigger number than 6.  He's getting so big.

Almost exactly 7...1hr and 54min to go.  Has gone from a 7lbs 15.9oz, 21in to a 49lb 48 1/2in kid!  He is such an awesome little boy, so caring, kind, helpful...and so much more.  Right now he's on the bus on the way home from school.  We will do dinner, cake and presents and then Casen has a baseball game tonight.

We are doing their bday party April 18th, I reserved the bounce house today...they don't know about that, they are going to be SO excited!!!!  Can't wait til they see it!
